Harness the Power of Your Subconscious Mind

March 24, 2019

'You have the power over your mind - not outside events. Realise this and you will find strength.'

             - Marcus Aurelius

Hypnotherapy & The Mind

Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool that harnesses the mind/body connection to promote health and healing.

If life feels like you’re wading through treacle or if you have a specific area where you’re not achieving your desired results - then hypnotherapy can be a highly effective way of finding the core of the issue. Treatments can then help to facilitate positive life shifts.

Often when you experience difficulties, conflicts, repeating patterns or hit major life blocks, it is because there is something that you need to learn in order to grow and move beyond the issue. Your subconscious mind can hold the key to finding the root cause of your situation.

Hypnotherapy allows you to tap into your subconscious mind to explore thoughts, feelings and suppressed memories that you may have hidden from your conscious mind. Whilst you’re in this highly receptive state of consciousness, you are also more responsive to positive direction, and negative behaviours can be modified so that positive change can be implemented within your life.

‘It is your mind which creates the world.’

- Buddha

What is the subconscious mind?

The subconscious mind is the powerhouse of the brain; it is 30,000 times more powerful that your conscious mind. It is the guiding force for your entire life because it accounts for approximately 92% of your brain.

The subconscious mind is therefore in control of you - influencing all your actions from behind the scenes and driving the majority of your behaviour!

The subconscious acts like a master computer to store, process and filter all information. Literally everything that has ever happened to you; everything you see, hear, smell, taste, encounter, experience, learn and imagine is absorbed by the subconscious mind and then held in archives in your internal hard drive.

Throughout your life, your subconscious is programmed with thoughts, habits and beliefs. The thoughts that you repeat to yourself become your mental habits. These are then combined with stories you have heard from those who are important to you, like your parents, friends, teachers and the media - in addition to your own personal experiences - to form an incredibly complex network of beliefs that help you understand and negotiate the world.

Is your subconscious mind holding you back?

The subconscious mind has no analytical ability and evolves its value system through emotions, not reason. It communicates predominantly with images and is governed by non-rational feelings.

The problem is that it cannot tell the difference between real and imagined events. It simply stores the billions of bits of information as fact, then provides information as requested by the conscious mind - or influences the conscious mind based on what it has stored in it. It then develops beliefs and habits based on this.

The Power of Your Thoughts

A person processes about 80,000 thoughts a day, and the subconscious mind makes no distinction between constructive or destructive thought impulses!

Negative self-talk can be very damaging because the subconscious hears this and sees it as truth. Any thought that you keep repeating to yourself, along with a visual image that you create and hold in your mind will become programmed into your subconscious mind, and then become your dominant thoughts.

The subconscious imprints this data and then attracts or helps you to create the circumstances that match these images and thoughts. It also automates these behaviours and thought patterns so they become part of your programming, even though they may be incorrect or unhelpful! You will still continue to create situations in your life that validate and express what you hold in your subconscious mind, regardless of whether it is in your best interest.

Your success in life is therefore inexorably tied to the words and beliefs about yourself that are stored in your subconscious mind!

‘The law of the subconscious mind works for good and bad ideas alike. This law, when applied in a negative way, is the cause of failure, frustration, and unhappiness. However, when your habitual thinking is harmonious and constructive, you experience perfect health, success, and prosperity.’

- Joseph Murphy

The Power of Your Beliefs

A person is unable to filter information in their critical, early formative years and all this data is stored in the subconscious mind. Perceptions and core beliefs which are determined through a young child's mind are formed at the subconscious level and become ingrained during early childhood.

Seeds are planted, which can manifest over time and grow into limiting beliefs that can have a huge impact on your daily life and can be counterproductive to your health, productivity and peace of mind. Ineffective and inappropriate responses to life’s challenges can be triggered based on this negative childhood programming.

Limiting beliefs can prompt you to put yourself down, give you a victim mentality, create self-sabotaging behaviour and allow you to replay old memories - and subsequently cause you discomfort and pain.

Your memories, conditioning from childhood, personal interpretations of life events, and opinions about those who have impacted your life can strengthen these limiting beliefs, and can prevent you from living your ideal life.

Can this negativity be reversed?

What you continuously think about will eventually manifest in your lives. Your mind is a powerful force - it can invent, create, experience and destroy things. It can enslave or empower you, plunge you to the depths of despair or make you feel ecstatic. The trick is to harness this power so that it can be used in the most positive way.

During treatments repeating patterns, perceptions and beliefs are explored that may have been formed on a subconscious level as a result of your past experiences. Hypnotherapy helps release blockages, aids the healing process and encourages you to move forward in your life.

The subconscious mind is also more receptive to beneficial therapeutic suggestions. By altering unconscious thoughts and ideas you can easily and immediately make changes in your conscious actions and overcome many unwanted patterns of behaviour.
