Help for Teenagers

Being a Teenager can be a challenging time! Its not an easy task to manage the physical changes, whilst being on an emotional rollercoaster and also navigating many of life’s most intense situations for the first time!

Actually for many Teenagers, it can be highly stressful; with a combination of often conflicting academic, parental, societal and peer pressures and expectations. They can be negatively affected, regardless of their family, gender, background or ethnicity.

Often Teenagers feel that they need to conform, or conversely they may feel that they just don’t fit in...and there are the additional pressures from social media in terms of image and appearance.

They can be left feeling totally overwhelmed, miserable, confused, stigmatised, helpless and unable to cope, and may develop serious mental health issues, or physical or psychological symptoms as a result.

There is evidence to suggest that some may try self-medicating as a coping mechanism (using food, drink, drugs, self harm, sex). Anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, poor body image, OCD, exam stress, worry and panic attacks are also all prevalent within this age group. Bullying affects over a million children in the UK and can leave them feeling isolated, worthless, lonely, anxious, angry and lacking confidence.

Recent figures show there are 8.2 million cases of anxiety in the UK, and over 50% of mental health problems are established by age 14 and 75% develop by age 18.

A recent study found that one in four British girls hit depression at the age of 14, and 70% of children and adolescents who experience mental health problems have not had appropriate interventions at a significantly early age. The average person takes over 10 years to seek help for their condition!

If these issues aren’t tackled, it can adversely affect a child’s confidence, sleep, ability to learn, motivation, tolerance to stress and personal relationships. And if left untreated they can be left feeling exhausted, upset and frustrated and it can also go on to significantly impact their employment, income and relationship stability in adult life.

With long waiting lists for treatments and difficulties getting an appointment, parents and teenagers can be left wondering what action to take.

At Silver Birch Therapies I frequently do treatments for teenagers to tackle a range of issues that are affecting them. I have had very positive, rapid results with noticeable changes often after the very first treatment, although a course of treatments may be recommended.

Teenagers have reported increased confidence and self worth, better relationships, sounder sleep, a more positive outlook, feeling significantly happier and increased motivation. See my Testimonials for positive success stories from teenagers who have sought my help.

Here is a quote from an 18 year old girl who had a recent treatment:

"I suffered with quite severe mood drops and anxiety where my day would be impacted because of it. But after having a treatment from Silver Birch Therapies I wake up so happy every morning, my eating and sleeping habits have improved and I have such a positive outlook with everything I do now. I am so grateful for this treatment!"
